Pelican State Credit Union in Monroe Louisiana Grand Opening

Pelican’s Monroe Grand Opening: A Celebration of Members

One of the best parts of our job is serving our members and their communities. When we grow and add a new branch and new team members to a community, we are able to take a more hands-on approach at working to make our members’ financial lives even better. It’s part of Pelican’s mission to give back in any way we can, and that was the focus on our latest grand opening celebration in Monroe.

We started the festivities by hosting a free Community Financial Wellness Workshop at the Ouachita Parish Main Library. We really love being able to keep everyone educated on all aspects of their finances, and we were thrilled to spend time with everyone who joined us.

Over 40 Monroe residents came out to learn about understanding credit reports and scores from Nationally Certified Credit Counselor Heike Reagan. Everyone who attended received a free jambalaya dinner! After all, it’s not a true Louisiana event without a little food.

The next day was the big day; it was the Grand Opening Celebration of our new Monroe branch! This wasn’t just a celebration about us, though; this was also a celebration of our members. Our branch has a passion for serving our members to the absolute best of our ability, and we wouldn’t be able to do that without the support of our members, the community and our Select Employer Groups.

We had all of the details planned out (many of you probably saw our Facebook event or heard our announcements on the radio), and we were really excited to cut the ribbon and fellowship with our members over free crawfish! Almost 150 members from across the city joined us for free giveaways, crawfish, corn and potatoes, and Mayor Jamie Mayo even stopped by so that we could serenade him on his birthday!

Branch Manager JT Thomas has been at Pelican for almost 8 years. He is really proud of his team, and he strives to take care of every one of our members. They even have their own branch motto in Monroe:

We can’t do everything for everybody, but we will do the most we can for everyone who gives us an opportunity.”

Pelican and the Monroe branch aim to embody those words in everything we do for our members and our community. Whether that’s through supporting local events like the Black Heritage Parade that rolls through Monroe, hosting giveaways to give back a little more or even helping members when times get tough, we aim to do the most we can for everyone who gives us an opportunity.
