Mid City Choir

Pelican’s Mid City Choir

The culture here at Pelican is centered around positivity and bonding as a family. Our team members will tell you time and time again that Pelican is an environment where work is fun and everyone can enjoy themselves.

That sentiment most definitely applies to our Baton Rouge at Mid City branch team. Pelican’s Mid City branch is as close-knit a team as you’ll hope to find. Because they work together so well and share the same goals, you can expect top-notch member service every time you visit the branch!

But why? Well, a big reason the branch team has built such a comradery is because they sing together in a choir!

We recently got the chance to ask the team about why they started a choir and their inspiration behind it.

Branch Manager Cynthia Vessel gathered the team’s answers for us, and this is what they had to say:

What inspired the branch to start a choir?

The choir at Mid City unofficially started in the months preceding our first video in December 2015, featuring the song “How Great is Our God.” Our only male vocalist, Member Service Assistant Terrance Gibbs, inspired it and pitched the idea to the rest of the team.

Who in the group has been singing the longest?

Terrance! He has been singing since the age of five, and he often leads our team in morning worship.

How does the choir influence the team that you work with?

The choir promotes a positive and cohesive work environment amongst our work family. It is often the inspiration they need to get them through the busy day.

Does the choir currently have a name? If so, what’s the reasoning behind it?

The choir at Mid City does not have an official name; however, we have been called “The Mid City Mass Choir” because of the glory that fills the room during our performances.

What is the choir’s favorite song to perform?

Our favorite song to perform is “Jesus Oh What a Wonderful Child,” which was presented at our Christmas Open House on December 19, 2019. We feel that it was our best performance yet.

Check out this video of the performance!

What has been the most rewarding experience from the choir?

The most rewarding part about having the choir is the opportunity to glorify God and spread his love. We all enjoy lifting up the Lord in worship and doing it with the people we love. This is the main reason we do what we do. It definitely welcomes and brings forth the presence of the holy spirit.

The choir sets the atmosphere, encourages unity, and inspires warm fellowship. What makes it even more special to us is that the members love it!

Pelican’s Baton Rouge at Mid City branch is located at 450 Lobdell Boulevard and has proudly served the Baton Rouge community for over 60 years.

If you stop by the branch, there are a few things you can expect. You can expect to be greeted with a smile, to receive friendly member service, and to be treated like family. On top of that, you may just get to witness the choir while you’re there!
